Die Vielfalt der Modifikationen und Settings in psychoanalytisch begründeten Psychotherapien ermöglicht eine flexible Anpassung der Behandlung. Trotz theoretischer Grundlagen gibt es jedoch weiterhin Diskussionen darüber, welche Kriterien tatsächlich in der Praxis berücksichtigt werden. Die IPPS Studie untersucht, welche differenziellen Indikationskriterien psychoanalytische Therapeutinnen und Therapeuten anwenden und welche Faktoren ihre Entscheidungen leiten. Im Rahmen einer qualitativen Untersuchung wurden vierzehn Psychoanalytikerinnen und Psychoanalytiker mittels halbstrukturierter Interviews befragt. Eine Grounded-Theory-Methodologie wurde verwendet, um ein Modell für den Indikationsprozess zu entwickeln. In einer anschließenden quantitativen Untersuchung wurden die ermittelten Indikationskriterien mittels Online-Umfrage überprüft und durch eine Faktorenanalyse strukturiert. Zentrale Einflussfaktoren für therapeutische Entscheidungen umfassen Patientenmerkmale, den Behandlungskontext sowie relationale Dynamiken. Das entwickelte Modell verdeutlicht die Komplexität des Indikationsprozesses und hebt die Notwendigkeit eines ganzheitlichen Verständnisses therapeutischer Prozesse hervor. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden hinsichtlich ihrer klinischen Implikationen für die differenzierte Indikationsstellung und ihre Bedeutung für die Praxis diskutiert.

Indication criteria in psychoanalytically based psychotherapies – results from the IPPS project.

The variety of modifications and settings in psychoanalytically based psychotherapies allows for flexible adaptation of treatment. Despite theoretical foundations, however, there are still discussions about which criteria are actually considered in practice. The IPPS study investigates which differential indication criteria psychoanalytic therapists apply and which factors guide their decisions. As part of a qualitative study, fourteen psychoanalysts were surveyed using semi-structured interviews. A grounded theory methodology was used to develop a model for the indication process. In a subsequent quantitative study, the identified indication criteria were reviewed using an online survey and structured using a factor analysis. Central influencing factors for therapeutic decisions include patient characteristics, the treatment context and relational dynamics. The model developed illustrates the complexity of the indication process and emphasises the need for a holistic understanding of therapeutic processes.
